What is it?
Natural Resource Management (NRM) is an integrated & multidisciplinary approach of Earth-Science, Life-science, Environmental Science, Social Science and Management Science to study, manage and restore natural resources and ecosystems. The field is applicable in wilderness, forestry, recreational, agricultural and urban areas to sustain and support abiotic and biotic resources and in addressing problems associated with the management of our environment. Natural Resource Managers helps to balance the needs of people and economy with the ability of ecosystems to support soil, water, forests, wildlife, fish, recreational resources etc. Ideally, these professionals look for ways to make responsible natural resource management decisions which consider all stakeholders, including communities, agencies and business/industry.
The course is especially designed in the context of Northeastern part of India to produce trained professionals to address the issues of NRM of the region. 
Course Duration: Two years (four semesters)

Paper-I Fundamentals of Natural Resources,
Paper –II: Fundamentals of Ecology and eco-system in natural resource management,
Paper-III Geography, Economy, Society and Politics of NE India,
Paper-IV Rural Resources and community management
 
Semester-II top
Paper – V Energy Resources and energy planning
Paper-  VI Watershed Management
Paper – VII Disaster Management
Paper- VIII Statistical Analysis and Computer Application
 
Semester – III top
Paper- IX Policy, Planning and Intervention in NRM,
Paper-X Natural Resources Potentiality Analysis,
Paper- XI Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA),
Paper- XII Tools and Techniques of Mapping and Spatial Analysis (including RS/GIS)
 
Semester – IV top
Paper – XIII Tools and techniques of Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA)
Paper- XIV Extension Education (EE)
Paper XV Project works on NRM issue
(Each of the theory paper has field work component and two OT in second and third semester)

Who can apply?
The course is open for Girl students passed out Bachelor degree with Geography/ Geology/ Botany/ Zoology/ Environmental Science/ Statistics/ Economics/ Anthropology, Political science as major subject.
Students appearing for Degree final year examination, 2009 may also apply for provisional admission.

Total number of Seats:

20
(7 seats are specially reserved for students from Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura). Reservation for ST, SC and OBC as per guideline.

Hostel:
Hostel seats are available for 10 students.  Preference will be given to out-station students on the basis of merits.
Course fee: Rs.14, 800.00 per semester
(including Rs. 5, 000.00 caution money).
Date of issue of application and prospectus: Out-station students may collect the form through application along with Rs.250.00 demand draft in favour of Principal, Nowgong Girls’ College,  Haiborgaon-782002, Nagaon, Assam. Click here to download the application form.
